It was Mons. De Waal - Chancellor
of National Religious Charity at the "Saint Teutonic Field"
- to call Rome, in 1887, the Nuns of S. Elisabeth; he had called, because
they should take care of the German, young people, who finding themselves,
often without means, in a great foreign city, could have met dangers of
every kind. The Congregation sent to Rome the first three Nuns for such
activity. In accepting this apostolate, new for them, the Nuns continued
to put into effect theirs charisma: to help where more the aid is necessary.
Once in Rome, according to their vocation and as an
example for Saint Elisabeth, the Nuns donated time and forces in order
to bring relief to who was in need. As time passed, it was necessary to
take over more and greater tasks. In fact, to the attendance of the young
people they also gave accommodation to pilgrims and hosts. Hospitals were
built, in various cities of Italy. Currently the Nuns are engaged in the
various fields of apostolate. The requirements are always infinite, but
we hope that with aid of the Lord, this beautiful work can last still
over a long time span.
